Today, it is a sad reality of common of STEAM and other
coding-related teaching education:
That it is primarily geared for the education of male children.
In order to encourage of the interests of a STEAM-oriented child,
regardless of age or gender,
Universal education must cater to all types of children.
Former female software engineer and
Stanford graduate Debbie Sterling founded GoldieBlox,
to create a genderless and universally enjoyable STEAM curriculum tool.
Components
Like other children's play equipment that is shaped like blocks,
GoldieBlox is structured similarly to parts used in actual engineering.
Scientific Principles
GoldiBlox is designed to experience the scientific principles of
actual consequences by studying input-output movements
and to allow the child to experiment with the designed structure
with his/her own eyes.
Manual
GoldieBlox represents the input-output experimentation
and unseen engineering principles of each product through hypothesis,
storytelling, and explanation.
English
GoldieBlox requires the user to tap into key reading,
assembling, speaking, and listening skills through story and instruction,
and finalizing the final successful product through writing.
Founded and launched in 2012 with the expertise and
talent of real-life engineers,
GoldieBlox has become so popular that it was even featured in some of the
most famous Super Bowl commercials in the United States.
GoldieBlox consists of engineering assembly tools + English storybooks,
and the [English STEAM] program was created to add onto GoldieBlox as
an additional English education tool.
With the increasing importance of STEAM, especially in the Korean markets,
Englishtoys Inc. made the decision to acquire GoldieBlox Korea Inc. in April 2023
and became an English Toys-exclusive activity program.
